Parts of the center and east experienced heavy rain as thunderstorms swept the country this afternoon.
More than 18.4 mm of rain fell in one hour at Mullingar weather station followed by 16.5 mm in the next hour.
The low pressure causing bad weather is circulating across Ireland and will feed into more severe thunderstorms. There have been reports of surface waters on roads in north Dublin including the M1 and flooding in Skerries and Swords.
There is another yellow thunderstorm warning for 24 hours on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Thunderstorm activity with a risk of hail, along with longer periods of rain over Kerry, Limerick, Clear and Tipperary, will create localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
The weather will continue to be stormy all night with heavy rains in the northern parts of the country. The forecaster said Münster and South Leinster would see a drier night in the rest of the country.
Minimum temperatures range between 11 and 14 degrees with westerly winds turning to stronger gusts at times.
Friday will see thunderstorms turn into longer periods of rain in the north and west, which means the risk of flooding continues in those areas.
Precipitation will be more isolated in Münster and the counties in south Leinster most of the day, until evening.
Unstable weather and rainfall will continue over the next weekend, with long rains expected Friday night.
Saturday will be a spotless day with widespread rain in the north and east of the country, with some sporadic thunderstorms returning, and with it the risk of flooding in parts of the country.
The southwest will be much brighter, with only some light rain. Rain will turn to Ulster and the counties along the Atlantic Coast Saturday night.
More thunderstorms are likely on Sunday, the Mitt Irian district said, with heavy rains hitting the northern half of the country.
There will be drier and brighter weather elsewhere, with maximum temperatures ranging between 15 and 19 degrees.
Showers should become more isolated and confined to the coasts on Sunday night.
The forecast for Monday is a mix of rain and sunny periods, while Tuesday is expected to be drier, before unsettled weather returns in the middle of next week.
There is little chance of a return to normal conditions next week, but there is uncertainty about the outlook.
