The husband of a woman who died after contracting Covid-19 while pregnant has paid homage to her caregivers.
Samantha Willis, 35, of Derry, was described as the «superhero» and «Queen» of her family after her death on August 20, 2021.
In a heartbreaking tribute to Facebook, Josh Willis said he lost the love of his life to Covid-19.
“I never imagined I would write something like this for years to come, if ever,” he said.
“Today was the worst day of my life. I lost the love of my life Samantha to Covid-19. Samantha had a tough fight over the past 16 days but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
“She did her best to get home to her family and beautiful children, and shortly after 12 noon in the early hours of this morning, she passed away peacefully in the intensive care unit at Altnagelvin Hospital.
“Me, her mother and her two firstborns were by her side. She was in no pain and was relieved when she slipped away.
«While in the hospital, she also had to make our latest addition to the family she’d never properly met or held in her arms. And I’ll make sure Evie Grace knows all about the mom she’ll never meet.»
“I will never let anyone forget you and I will remember all the special times and experiences we shared together.
“Children, including Holly and Shea, are now my main priority.
«All I want to do now is make Samantha proud. I’m sure she’s already looking down on her and proud of the way we’re doing.
“We are so proud of her too, she was such an amazing, loving and caring person who has been our superhero for the past few weeks. She is now our guardian angel and will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.
“We love you so much and miss you. We wish we could help you come home to live the rest of your life with us.
“I will never stop loving you and we will do our best to make you proud until we see you again. Sleep in peace my queen. I love you
«Thank you to all the staff at Altnagelvin Hospital who met Samantha on her journey. You are all really amazing people and I will never forget what you did for Samantha and our family.»
