Wet and windy conditions are set to take over in the coming days as Ireland’s heatwave fades into memory.
Today is set to be a fun day in most parts of the country, but scattered rain will turn heavy at times.
The first week of August looks increasingly miserable with more rain than usual for this time of year and average temperatures.
A Met Eireann meteorologist said: ‘Today will be a dry day for most people, although there will be well scattered rain, especially near the eastern and Atlantic coasts. There will be a mixture of clouds and sunny spells, with good evening sunshine. For many, maximum temperatures range between 15 and 19 degrees, northerly winds are light to moderate, and northwest winds.
“Very dry and clear to begin with with some rain near the western and eastern coasts. Clouds will intensify from the west overnight with heavy rain moving into the western coastal provinces before dawn. Northwest breezes will be light and variable. Lowest temperatures 7 to 11 degrees .
« Cloudy at first with rain in Connacht and Münster, becoming heavy in places in Münster. Intermittent rain or drizzle may also affect western and southern parts of Ulster and Leinster.
«Brighten later in the afternoon, with scattered rain and showers. Northeast and Far East likely to be dry with bright periods there all day. Highest temperatures 16 to 19 degrees with light northwest breeze.»
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday look particularly humid with occasional thunderstorms.
On top of that, it looks like the wet weather will continue – a Met Eireann meteorologist said: «Continuing instability with low pressure located near Ireland resulting in more rain or rain. Temperatures will remain around average.»
